PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kai Urutaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Espada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Espada is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Greedy Fly. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Urutaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Guillermo Espada!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Espada punishes Urutaka's body with a nice straight punch.

Urutaka pushes Espada up against the cage in a clinch.
Espada can't find room to land a body shot as Urutaka controls the action.
Espada tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Urutaka tries for a takedown but Espada manages to get underhooks.
Urutaka lands a body punch.
Urutaka blocking some punches.

Urutaka gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Espada regains guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Urutaka drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Urutaka jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Espada utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Urutaka has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Urutaka won't allow Espada to get back to his feet.

Urutaka stands up and waves to Espada to follow him.
Espada lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Espada.
Urutaka avoids a punch combination nicely.
Espada throws a right hand that Urutaka ducks under and follows up with a left that Urutaka also avoids with ease.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Espada throws a body punch but Urutaka moves out of range.
Espada throws a hook to the side of Urutaka's head but Urutaka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Espada misses with the combination.
Espada throws a series of punches but Urutaka avoids them all with ease.
Espada will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Urutaka looks to land a combination. Espada sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Urutaka looking to score a takedown here. Espada is defending well but Urutaka drives through and ends up in Espada's guard.
Urutaka is stalling in the full guard.
Espada wants to stand but Urutaka is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Urutaka is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Urutaka thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Urutaka trying to control but Espada is working from the bottom.
Espada utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Espada is looking to stand up but Urutaka isn't so interested in that idea.
Urutaka is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Urutaka missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Urutaka won't allow Espada to get back to his feet.

Urutaka thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Urutaka stands and steps away. Espada gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Espada lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Urutaka circles away quickly and effectively.
Urutaka shoots in and drives through. Espada sprawls well.
Espada lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Urutaka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Espada tries to avoid it but Urutaka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Espada to the ground. Espada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kai Urutaka. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Urutaka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Espada tries to avoid it but Urutaka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Espada to the ground. Espada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Guillermo Espada is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Urutaka will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Espada falls off balance throwing a combination
and Urutaka counters with a straight right hand.
Urutaka closes this distance looking for a takedown but Espada circles away.
Espada lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Urutaka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Espada tries to avoid it but Urutaka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Espada to the ground. Espada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Urutaka stalks Espada and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Espada's face. Espada staggers backwards, shaken.
Espada bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Urutaka's head backwards.
Espada lands with a big left! Urutaka is wobbled badly! Espada comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Urutaka to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Guillermo Espada!
After winning the bout, Guillermo Espada thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
