PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Avo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam Avo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Avo!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Avo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Silva takes the fight into the clinch.
Silva wants a takedown but no success here.
Silva controlling the action here for a moment.
Silva landing knees to the head.
Silva is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Avo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Silva tries for a takedown but Avo manages to get underhooks.

Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Avo fails to pull guard.
Silva tries to score a body lock takedown but Avo shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Avo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Silva is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Avo to the mat. Avo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Silva is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Avo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Avo has escaped and now he's on top!

Avo won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Avo controlling from the top position.

Silva is working an open guard so Avo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Avo darts in trying to clinch

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Avo didn't expect that.
Avo is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.
Avo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Avo controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
Avo should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Silva won't allow Avo to get back to his feet.

Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Avo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Silva has Avo in his guard.
Avo wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Avo stays in close to Silva's body and controls the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.

Silva wants to pass the guard but Avo is keeping the position.
Avo looking to control.

Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Avo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Silva has Avo in his guard.
Avo slips nicely into half guard.

Avo seems to be working for a kimura but Silva defends the submission attempt.

Silva looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Avo moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Silva.
Silva is looking to reverse the position.
Avo trying to control the position but Silva is working away.
Silva is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pedro Silva will probably get the nod.

Avo closes the distance but Silva moves to the side

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Avo won't be happy with that.

Silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Avo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Silva goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Avo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Silva but great work by Avo.
Avo in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva is not content to let Avo control the position.

Avo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Silva has escaped the position, nice work there.

Silva tries to buck Avo off but Avo is having none of it.
Avo slows the pace down.
Silva takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Silva is looking for a sweep.
Silva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Avo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.
Silva tries to pass to full mount but Avo defends it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Silva is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Silva looking for a submission but Avo manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Avo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Avo is keeping the position for now.
Silva advances to half guard.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Silva is trying to work for a kimura but Avo is defending well.

Silva is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Silva is working for a submission of some sort.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Avo pushes Silva off and gets back to his feet.
Silva wants to clinch

and Avo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Silva won't be happy with that.
Silva tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Avo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Adam Avo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Silva's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Avo misses with a takedown

and Silva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Avo's guard.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Avo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Avo working a defensive guard here.
Silva passes Avo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Silva tries to pass to full mount but Avo defends it.
Silva moves nicely into side control.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Silva swings around for an armbar but Avo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Silva's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Silva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Avo!
Silva mounts Avo! Really nice guard pass there!

Silva is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Avo has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Avo!

Avo works to advance to full mount. Silva defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Silva is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Silva looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Silva rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Avo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Silva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Silva.
Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Avo is retaining full guard.

Silva is looking for a triangle here but Avo uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Pedro Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
