PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mika Kallio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kallio does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Evans connects with an inside leg kick.

Evans shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kallio napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kallio tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Evans postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Kallio is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Evans's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Evans's back!
Kallio wants to control the position but Evans frees himself and scrambles - Kallio manages to regain control in side control.

Kallio stands up and beckons Evans to his feet.

Evans breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Evans lands a nice shot that snaps Kallio's head back.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Evans, as that shot connected.

and Kallio counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kallio would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Evans has his feet on Kallio's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Evans wants to land a leg kick but Kallio is out of range.

Evans shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Evans was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kallio tries to bench press Evans off him but Evans keeps the position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kallio definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Kallio is desperately trying to improve his position but Evans has a good base and remains in mount.

A close round but Rob Evans will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kallio's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Evans scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Kallio will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Evans is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Evans. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Kallio wants to stand and escape but instead Evans has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Evans is working Kallio over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Evans is in close to Kallio's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Evans's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Evans content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Kallio is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kallio wants to stand up but Evans manages to regain full guard.
Evans is looking to stand up but Kallio isn't so interested in that idea.

Kallio has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Evans is proving hard to escape from.

Evans tries to land a front kick but Kallio steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Rob Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kallio.

Kallio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Evans closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kallio's guard.

He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Evans looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Kallio can't hide his disappointment, as Evans celebrates the victory.
