PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between bj Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Kos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kos has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Dan Kos will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, bj Ferguson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Kos!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kos throws a shot from downtown. Ferguson moves away and avoids it.
Ferguson ducks under a wild hook from Kos.

Ferguson clinches.
Kos is trying to break free.

Ferguson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A nice combination there by Kos.

Ferguson clinches up against the cage.

Ferguson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ferguson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferguson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ferguson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Ferguson has his foot on Kos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kos works his way back into a safe position though.
Kos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ferguson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kos postures up in Ferguson's guard and throws a big left but Ferguson blocks it.

Kos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ferguson is pulling down on Kos's head. It's preventing any offense from Kos, at least for the moment.

Ferguson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kos is looking to improve his position but Ferguson isn't that keen on the idea.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kos can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kos tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ferguson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Ferguson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ferguson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kos looks a forlorn figure.
Ferguson looking to control but Kos is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ferguson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kos throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
We've been informed that Kos has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Ferguson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ferguson drives through with a takedown into Kos's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kos is looking for a triangle but Ferguson pushes his legs off easily.
Ferguson chips away with some ground and pound.

Kos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kos is breathing heavily.

Ferguson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ferguson wants to take a breather but Kos is having none of it.

bj Ferguson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kos throws a right hand that Ferguson ducks under and follows up with a left that Ferguson also avoids with ease.
Kos throws a lazy right hand but Ferguson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kos lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ferguson is looking to clinch.

No luck for Ferguson with that takedown attempt.
Kos cracks Ferguson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Ferguson looks for a takedown but Kos sprawls well.
Ferguson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kos tries to avoid it but Ferguson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kos to the ground. Kos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for bj Ferguson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kos scores with a shot to the body.
Kos scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Kos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ferguson is looking to clinch but Kos is avoiding it.
Ferguson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kos manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ferguson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Kos checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A punch combination from Kos misses.

Kos gets caught flat footed, as Ferguson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ferguson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
bj Ferguson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ferguson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because bj Ferguson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Kos's jab looks to have found its range, popping Ferguson under the eye.
Ferguson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kos.
Ferguson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Ferguson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ferguson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kos tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ferguson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). bj Ferguson!
bj Ferguson made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'This was a good fight. Can't wait for my next obstacle. (23-10)'.
