PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rickson Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bravo comes to the cage accompanied by OVER ME by Tricky. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rickson Bravo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz drops Bravo with a right and a left! Diaz comes rushing in but Bravo regains his composure and manages to keep Diaz in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bravo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bravo wants to sweep but no luck.
Diaz passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Bravo regains half guard.
Bravo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Diaz passes to side control.
You can see the frustration on Bravo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
What's Bravo going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Diaz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bravo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Diaz's guard! Nice work there by Bravo!

Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bravo passes into side control.

Bravo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bravo works to advance to full mount. Diaz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Bravo is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Diaz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Diaz is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is trying desperately to improve position.
Diaz is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Bravo dominating with strikes here.
Bravo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Diaz because Bravo loaded up on that one.
Bravo wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bravo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Diaz manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Bravo is working for a submission of some sort.

Bravo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bravo passes to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bravo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well.
Bravo advances nicely into full mount.
Diaz is squirming around, avoiding Bravo's attempts to control the action.
Bravo blocks Diaz's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Bravo with a couple of short strikes.
Bravo looking to control but Diaz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Diaz is looking to improve his position but Bravo isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bravo fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Diaz is trying to reverse the position but instead Bravo has taken his back - oops!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bravo is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Diaz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Bravo lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Bravo.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Bravo throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Bravo has the hooks in. Diaz is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Bravo working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Diaz is doing well to defend. Bravo seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Diaz is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rickson Bravo!
After winning the bout, Rickson Bravo thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
