PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trym Kaarvik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Lambert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marvin Lambert was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Trym Kaarvik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marvin Lambert!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lambert lands a two punch combo.
Kaarvik ducks under a wild hook from Lambert.
Lambert throws a series of punches but Kaarvik moves out of range.

Kaarvik feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Lambert wants to stand and escape but Kaarvik is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kaarvik is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lambert defends it well.

Kaarvik is keen to just control but Lambert is a slippery customer.

Kaarvik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lambert is looking to escape.

Kaarvik is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lambert wants to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lambert can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kaarvik looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lambert with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kaarvik seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lambert does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lambert manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Kaarvik keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Lambert lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Kaarvik uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lambert.
Lambert tries to bum rush Kaarvik with a series of wild strikes but Kaarvik uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Marvin Lambert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lambert's jab looks to have found its range, popping Kaarvik under the eye.
Lambert lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kaarvik circles away quickly and effectively.
Lambert is breathing heavily.
Lambert throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kaarvik counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kaarvik.
Lambert has a couple of punches blocked by Kaarvik.

Kaarvik is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Lambert felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Lambert tries to kick Kaarvik off but Kaarvik keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kaarvik connects with a nice short shot to Lambert's temple.

Lambert is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Kaarvik off. It looks like it's working - Kaarvik slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Lambert displaying calm under pressure there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Trym Kaarvik will probably get the nod.

I would just about give that final round to Marvin Lambert.
I think Kaarvik has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
