PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Gunner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeshi Yuudai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yuudai is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Fear of the dark - Iron Maiden. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thomas Gunner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Takeshi Yuudai!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Gunner misses

and Yuudai counters with a single leg into guard. Gunner didn't expect that.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Yuudai has gone for a leg lock! Gunner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Yuudai's guard.
Gunner wants to stand but Yuudai is controlling his posture from full guard.
Gunner trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Gunner stands up and waves to Yuudai to follow him.
Gunner misses the shot to the body.
Gunner buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sloppy strikes from Gunner. Those never looked like landing.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gunner enables Yuudai to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gunner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yuudai postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Yuudai wants to pass the guard but Gunner is keeping the position.

Yuudai is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gunner is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gunner has escaped and now he's on top!
Gunner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Yuudai is looking to stand up but Gunner isn't so interested in that idea.
Gunner wants to stand but Yuudai is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yuudai is looking to stand up but Gunner isn't so interested in that idea.
Gunner wants to get up but he can't break Yuudai's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yuudai wants to stand and escape but Gunner is having none of it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gunner throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Yuudai closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Yuudai works his way into full mount!
Yuudai landing punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Yuudai throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Gunner because Yuudai loaded up on that one.
Yuudai lands a big shot there that rocks Gunner but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Yuudai is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gunner has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gunner!
Yuudai is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gunner has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yuudai is proving hard to escape from.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yuudai has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gunner off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yuudai shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gunner napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Yuudai is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gunner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Yuudai has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Yuudai goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gunner rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Yuudai's guard! Nice work there by Gunner!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gunner wanted to stand there but Yuudai had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takeshi Yuudai dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gunner misses with a combination

and Yuudai counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yuudai.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Yuudai postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yuudai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Yuudai drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Yuudai as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Gunner screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Yuudai! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Takeshi Yuudai!
An out of breath Takeshi Yuudai thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
