PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Petter Anier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Powers's choice of entrance music: Californication. On his way into the cage it seems that Petter Anier has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Petter Anier seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Powers gets the takedown into side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Powers works to advance to full mount. Anier defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Anier sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Anier is looking for a sweep. Powers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Anier wants to control but Powers is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Powers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Anier keeping hold of Powers's head, controlling as best he can.
Powers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Powers accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Anier is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Powers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Anier takes one to the chin there.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Anier.
Powers throws a looping overhand right but Anier ducks down to avoid it.

Anier feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Anier stands up from Powers's guard - Anier perhaps looking for a knockout.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Anier fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Powers avoids it really well and circles away.
Anier shoots in looking for a takedown. Powers tries to sprawl out of it but Anier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Powers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Powers uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Anier closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Powers did well to prevent Anier getting side control.
Anier wants to control but Powers is keeping him busy.

Anier is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Powers defends it well.

Anier thows a huge punch but Powers dodges it nicely.

Powers wants to improve his position but Anier is controlling well.
Anier working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Powers's thigh. Powers counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Anier wants to stand but Powers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anier stands and throws Powers's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anier takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Anier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Powers's waist but Powers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anier off to one side.

Powers felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Powers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Oh Anier is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Powers cracks Anier with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Powers postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Anier out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Powers goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
