PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Denis Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Massa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burza comes to the cage accompanied by Du Hast - Rammstein. On his way into the cage it seems that Denis Burza has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Denis Burza seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Denis Burza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Massa!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burza gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Massa counters with a stiff right hand.
Burza shoots in for a double leg but Massa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Massa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Burza drives through with a takedown into Massa's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Massa looking to control.
Burza pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Massa is keeping the position for now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Burza accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Burza wants to pass the guard but Massa is keeping the position.
Massa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burza stands and throws Massa's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Burza working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Burza moves into full mount!
Massa tries to hold on but Burza postures up.
Burza landing punches.
Massa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Burza is landing with some decent strikes but Massa is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Massa is trying to escape the mount.
Burza lands a nice shot to the head.
Massa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Burza lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Massa hang on?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burza fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Burza cracks Massa with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Massa is trying to escape the mount.
Burza putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Massa is trying desperately to improve position.

Massa tries to hold on but Burza pushes him away.
Burza in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Massa can do anything to dispel that myth.

Burza has hold of Massa's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Massa manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

BOOM! Burza connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burza is landing with some decent strikes but Massa is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Massa is squirming around, avoiding Burza's attempts to control the action.
Massa takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Burza lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


Massa is rocked!
Burza looking to control but Massa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Massa is still in real trouble! Can Burza finish him?
Burza lands a big shot there that rocks Massa but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Massa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Burza prevents Massa from getting the reversal.
Massa seems to have recovered his senses.
Burza connects with a couple of good shots from mount.


It looks like Mike Massa has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Burza postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Massa bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Burza and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Denis Burza!
As Denis Burza got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: I would like to thank everyone who helped me during my journey. Most notable, Luca Moconesi. Thank you Luca! Without you I wouldn't be here today.'.
