PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Cutler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patrick Cote told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Cutler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Cote!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Cote closes the distance looking to clinch

and Cutler counters with a single leg into guard. Cote didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cote throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cutler is working Cote over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cutler wants to control from the top but Cote keeps moving.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cote is on top in guard.

Cote wants to get up but he can't break Cutler's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cutler has control of Cote's left arm, preventing Cote from doing any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cutler scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Cutler avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cote looks for a takedown but Cutler sprawls well.

Cutler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cote!
You can see the frustration on Cote's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cutler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cote keeps working.

Cote is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Cote steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cutler.
Cutler misses the shot to the body.
Cote wants to clinch.
Cote rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cutler moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote tries to clinch there but Cutler circles away.
Patrick Cote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cutler swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cote throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cutler.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jay Cutler will probably get the nod.

Cutler looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Cutler tries to hold on but Cote pushes him away.

Cutler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cote on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cutler looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.

Cote sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Cote is looking to control Cutler but Cutler is wriggling around and keeping busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cutler is holding onto Cote's left hand, preventing any choke attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Cote has Cutler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cutler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jay Cutler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Cote.

Cote is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cutler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cote swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cote wants to stand up but Cutler is controlling him.

Cote controls Cutler momentarily but Cutler frees himself.
Cote wants to sweep but no luck.

Cutler has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
