PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bazza Corderer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Carruthers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corderer comes to the cage accompanied by WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. Carruthers is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tsunami. Jimmy Carruthers will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bazza Corderer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Carruthers!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Carruthers.
Corderer shoots for a double leg takedown but Carruthers sprawls well. He's pushed Corderer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carruthers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Corderer misses with a low kick as Carruthers jumps back.

Corderer gets a double leg takedown into Carruthers's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Corderer prevents Carruthers from getting back to his feet.
Corderer trying to control the position from guard on top but Carruthers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Corderer with a nice head shot there.
Carruthers keeping moving, preventing Corderer from controlling successfully.

Corderer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Corderer won't allow Carruthers to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carruthers being controlled here, momentarily.
Corderer pushing down on Carruthers's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Corderer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carruthers with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corderer slows the pace down in half guard.
Corderer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Carruthers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Corderer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carruthers is trying to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Corderer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bazza Corderer has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Carruthers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Carruthers blocks a head kick by Corderer.
Corderer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carruthers avoids it really well and circles away.
Corderer wants to clinch.
We've been told by Corderer's head coaches at Finch Farm that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Carruthers leaves Corderer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bazza Corderer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carruthers pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Carruthers gets a clinch.
Corderer fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carruthers lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

A knee to the head by Carruthers.

Corderer manages to pull guard.
Corderer trying to control the position here.

Corderer is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Carruthers rolls with it to try and escape but Corderer cranks on the arm and Carruthers is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bazza Corderer!
Bazza Corderer decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
