PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pate Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Connor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pate Boxer!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boxer takes the fight into the clinch.
Boxer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Boxer decides to pull guard.
Boxer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Connor postures up.
Connor wants to pass the guard but Boxer is keeping the position.
Boxer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Connor is controlling him.
Connor postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Connor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boxer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Connor postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Connor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boxer is keeping the position for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Boxer fails with the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Boxer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Boxer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Connor prevents the takedown attempt.
Boxer tries to pull guard but Connor won't allow it.
John Connor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pate Boxer.
Boxer tries for a takedown. No joy.
Boxer wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Connor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Connor pulls guard effortlessly.
Boxer trying to control but Connor is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boxer passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Connor is looking to reverse the position.
Connor prevents Boxer from improving position.
Connor is trying to improve his position.
Connor is working hard here to advance position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boxer tries to stand but Connor controls the position and pulls Boxer into his guard.

Connor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Connor can't keep his opponent in guard - Boxer advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Connor is refusing to be controlled, as Boxer sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Connor works his way to full guard. Good work.
Boxer would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Boxer throws and elbow that misses. Connor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Boxer's guard. Nice move by Connor!
Connor advances to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Boxer tries to get to full guard but Connor has control of the leg.
Connor passes to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Connor will probably get the nod.
That's time! Connor's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Connor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Boxer counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Boxer.
Boxer trying to control but Connor is working from the bottom.

Connor is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Boxer rolls with it to try and escape but Connor cranks on the arm and Boxer is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Connor!
