PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Smart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Dust (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dust comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Raining Blood kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rod Smart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ken Dust!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smart avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Smart feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Smart gets to his feet - Dust follows without any prompting.
Smart fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Smart throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Smart ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Smart gets caught flat footed, as Dust shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Smart might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smart is looking to stand up but Dust isn't so interested in that idea.
Dust slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Dust would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Smart could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Smart keeping moving, preventing Dust from controlling successfully.
Smart is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dust is controlling him.
Smart is breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smart tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dust swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Dust counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Ken Dust seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dust closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smart to the mat! Smart manages to get full guard.

Dust lands a couple of digs.

Dust tries to stand but Smart is controlling from the bottom.
Dust controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
I looks like Dust might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Smart is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dust is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Smart is looking to stand up but Dust isn't so interested in that idea.

Dust tries to free his leg and advance position but Smart is retaining full guard.
Dust passes into half guard.
Dust controlling the pace.
Smart is trying to stand up here but Dust is controlling him well.
Smart is trying to escape back to his feet but Dust uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Smart is looking to get back to his feet here but Dust is keeping cool and he's managed to take Smart's back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dust working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Smart has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Dust dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dust throws a series of punches but Smart moves out of range.
Smart misses with a takedown attempt

and Dust counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dust.

Dust tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smart's elbow.
Dust stops a takedown attempt from Smart.

Dust shoots for a double leg takedown but Smart sprawls well. He's pushed Dust's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Dust tries to bum rush Smart with a series of wild strikes but Smart uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Dust decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smart's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rod Smart. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dust is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Smart is looking to stand up but Dust isn't so interested in that idea.

Smart kicks Dust off and gets to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smart wants to get back to his feet but Dust drags him back down.

Dust stands up and we're back to a striking position.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Dust is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rod Smart is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Smart goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dust prevents it.
Dust tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smart just stands there and leans against the cage.

Dust escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Smart looks for a takedown but Dust sprawls well.

Dust fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smart, pushing him back against the cage.

Dust manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smart gets to his feet. Dust looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Dust throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smart avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Dust throws a sloppy head kick and Smart moves out of range easily.

Dust bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dust is looking to take a break and control but Smart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smart is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dust doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Smart counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dust wants to get back to his feet but Smart is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Smart wants to stand but Dust has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Dust is working an open guard so Smart takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smart misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rod Smart. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smart throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dust's waist but Dust gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smart off to one side.
Dust shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smart as he jumps to the side.

Smart wanted to stand there but Dust had control of the position.

Smart decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dust, up you get!

Smart shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Dust counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Smart manages to escape and get back to his feet.

and Dust counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ken Dust.
I think Dust has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
