Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Vertigo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Newsom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newsom is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Newsom throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vertigo's waist but Vertigo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Newsom off to one side.
Newsom throws a low kick, looking for Vertigo's leg but Vertigo calmly moves out of range.

Vertigo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Newsom is trying to get back to his feet.
Newsom is not content to let Vertigo control the position.
Vertigo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vertigo tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Newsom tries to escape but Vertigo is in control.
Newsom defending against the ground and pound.

Vertigo stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Newsom has a takedown stuffed.

Vertigo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Newsom wants to get back to his feet.
Vertigo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Vertigo stands up out of the half guard.

Vertigo closes the distance and pushes Newsom back into the cage.
Newsom is trying to break free.

Vertigo is looking for a triangle but Newsom pushes his legs off easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Vertigo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vertigo wants to stand up but Newsom is controlling him.

We're going to have a standup here because Tommy Vertigo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Vertigo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Newsom paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Newsom throws a hook but Vertigo avoids it easily.
Vertigo avoids the body shot from Newsom.
Vertigo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Newsom swats away the attempt to clinch by Vertigo.
Vertigo slips a jab from Newsom.
Newsom slips a jab and a cross from Vertigo.
Newsom throws a nice looking combination but Vertigo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vertigo lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Newsom throws a sloppy head kick

and Vertigo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Newsom breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!



Vertigo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Newsom is trying to defend but Vertigo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Vertigo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Vertigo prevents Newsom from standing back up.
Vertigo is trying to control. Newsom wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vertigo wants to free his trapped foot but Newsom is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Newsom looks like he's trying to stand up.
Newsom is breathing heavily.
Newsom is refusing to be controlled, as Vertigo sits in half guard.

Tommy Vertigo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tommy Vertigo has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

James Newsom seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vertigo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Newsom throws out the jab.
Newsom stuffs the takedown attempt from Vertigo. Vertigo gets slowly back to his feet.
Newsom fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Vertigo avoids it really well and circles away.

Vertigo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Newsom to the mat! Newsom manages to get full guard.

Vertigo slips nicely into half guard.
Vertigo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vertigo won't let Newsom get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Vertigo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Newsom for as long as he can get away with.
Newsom is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Vertigo has taken his back!

Newsom is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Vertigo gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

Newsom prevents Vertigo from getting a body triangle.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Vertigo's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Newsom covering up well and avoiding damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vertigo is riding his opponent, not letting Newsom buck him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Vertigo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Newsom drives through and clinches with Vertigo against the cage.

Vertigo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Newsom uses from the top position.
Newsom really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vertigo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Newsom wants to stand and escape but instead Vertigo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Vertigo wants to control from the top but Newsom keeps moving.
Newsom is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Vertigo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Newsom takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tommy Vertigo wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Nice takedown defense from Newsom. No joy for Vertigo on that attempt.

Newsom looks to clinch
and Vertigo counters with a big head kick but Newsom shrugs it off.

Vertigo gets the takedown into side control.
Newsom is not content to let Vertigo control the position.

Vertigo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Newsom to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vertigo.
Tommy Vertigo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Newsom shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vertigo's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Newsom wants to get up but he can't break Vertigo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Vertigo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Newsom got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vertigo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Newsom has managed to get both his arms back between Vertigo's legs - danger averted.

Vertigo is looking to cinch up a triangle. Newsom throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Vertigo's body to avoid the submission. Vertigo has instead reached around Newsom's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Vertigo arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tommy Vertigo!
