PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eerik Rikkonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Apachai Hopachai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eerik Rikkonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Apachai Hopachai!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rikkonen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Hopachai's sensitive parts.
Hopachai changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rikkonen tries to avoid it but Hopachai manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rikkonen to the ground. Rikkonen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rikkonen gets a clinch.
Hopachai tries to pull guard but Rikkonen won't allow it.
Hopachai is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rikkonen to keep the fight standing.
Eerik Rikkonen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Apachai Hopachai.
Hopachai has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rikkonen avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Rikkonen lands with a light punch inside.
Hopachai tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rikkonen smiles and moves away.
Rikkonen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hopachai tries to avoid it but Rikkonen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hopachai to the ground. Hopachai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hopachai misses the jab.

Rikkonen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rikkonen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Rikkonen controls the position.
Hopachai takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rikkonen controls the position from side control.

Rikkonen stands up and beckons Hopachai to his feet.
Hopachai tries to clinch
and Rikkonen counters with a thumping low kick.
Hopachai tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rikkonen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rikkonen shoots for a takedown but Hopachai saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rikkonen rushes Hopachai and presses him up against the cage.

Rikkonen breaks the clinch.
Rikkonen darts in looking for a takedown but Hopachai gets double underhooks and turns Rikkonen into the cage.

Rikkonen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rikkonen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hopachai tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rikkonen is in Hopachai's guard.
Hopachai really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rikkonen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rikkonen controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rikkonen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Hopachai darts in trying to clinch
and Rikkonen counters with a head kick. That will keep Hopachai thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Rikkonen shoots for a double leg takedown but Hopachai sprawls well. He's pushed Rikkonen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hopachai shoots in for a takedown but Rikkonen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hopachai looks winded!
Hopachai swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Rikkonen or perhaps it was just good defense by Hopachai which made him look bad.

Rikkonen rushes Hopachai and presses him up against the cage.

Rikkonen breaks from the clinch.
Hopachai throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Rikkonen.

Rikkonen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rikkonen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
A lull in the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rikkonen decides to stand back up. Rikkonen steps back and let's Hopachai get back to his feet.

Rikkonen rushes Hopachai and presses him up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hopachai wants a takedown but no success here.

Rikkonen jumps into guard, dragging Hopachai to the mat.
Hopachai must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rikkonen has his foot on Hopachai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hopachai works his way back into a safe position though.
Hopachai is fighting to break Rikkonen's control of his arms but Rikkonen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Rikkonen looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Hopachai is defending well. Rikkonen quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Hopachai has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Rikkonen celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eerik Rikkonen!
