PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Edson Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Carvalho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Edson Garcia!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fabricio Carvalho!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia lands with a thumping leg kick.
Garcia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carvalho sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Carvalho is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Carvalho content to control rather than advance.
Carvalho tries to pass to full mount but Garcia defends it.
Garcia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carvalho on the ground.
Carvalho is taking a breather. Garcia says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Carvalho is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Garcia still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Garcia has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The ground and pound from Garcia seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Carvalho throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carvalho tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Garcia wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Garcia swings around for an armbar but Carvalho sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Garcia's guard.

Carvalho drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Garcia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Carvalho has Garcia in his guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carvalho is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carvalho connects with a nice short shot to Garcia's temple.

Carvalho is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Garcia is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fabricio Carvalho!

Fabricio Carvalho decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
