PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Belcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Payton Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Belcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 1, fighting out of London, Payton Wright!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belcher fails with a takedown attempt.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wright.
Wright lands a nice shot that snaps Belcher's head back.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Belcher is defended easily by Wright.
Wright throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Belcher lands a really nice looking cross but Wright seems unphased.


It looks like Payton Wright has been cut.
Belcher takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Belcher shoots in looking for a takedown. Wright tries to sprawl out of it but Belcher keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wright manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Belcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wright throws a quick inside leg kick.
Wright clobbers Belcher with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Wright lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Belcher doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Belcher gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Wright.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wright misses with a two punch combination.
Wright throws a nice inside leg kick.
A shot to the liver by Wright. Beautiful body shot.
Wright buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Wright keeps Belcher at a distance using the push kick.
Belcher shoots in and drives through. Wright sprawls well.
Belcher is breathing heavily.

Wright feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Belcher is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Facebreaker Academy : Striking that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Wright might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Belcher haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Wright throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Belcher works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Wright slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Payton Wright wasn't active enough on the ground.
Belcher throws a leg kick
and Wright counters with a nice uppercut.
A cross from Wright lands.
Wright swats away the attempt to clinch by Belcher.
Belcher is looking to clinch.
Belcher throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wright digs a good body shot into Belcher's ribs.
Wright ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Wright lands with a shot to the body.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Belcher. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Belcher with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wright to score with a decent uppercut.

Wright gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Wright throws a head punch that misses.
Wright lands a body shot.

Wright lands a shoulder strike.
Wright lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Belcher blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Wright lands a nice uppercut.
Wright lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Belcher.
Wright lands a shot to the body.
Wright scores with a shoulder strike.
A short uppercut from Wright.
Wright presses Belcher against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Wright lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Wright doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Wright digs a right hand underneath Belcher's ribcage. Belcher let out a lung full of air as it connected.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wright lands a hook that snaps the head of Belcher backwards.
Wright lands an uppercut.

Wright pushes Belcher back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Wright presses Belcher against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Wright tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Wright lands with a left to the head.
Wright misses with a punch to the body.
Wright can't find room to land a body shot as Belcher controls the action.
Wright lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Belcher.
Still in the clinch, Wright scores with a nice short uppercut.
Wright lands with a left to the head.
Wright stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Wright stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Wright lands an uppercut.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A short right hand to the side of the head by Wright.


Belcher is rocked!
Wright pushes Belcher against the cage. Wright is working some dirty boxing. Wright pushes off with a quick right hook! Belcher goes down! Belcher tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Wright moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Payton Wright!
A very excited looking Payton Wright rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
