Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesus Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James gets a double leg takedown into Mendes's guard.
James distracts Mendes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

James drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendes!

James throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Mendes lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Mendes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by James.
James lands with a nice combination. Mendes backs away looking to recover.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mendes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Mendes moves into the clinch.
James is looking to take this one to the mat.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mendes gets the underhooks and prevents it.

James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Mendes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but James can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are working up against the cage. James manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Mendes tries to land a knee to the head but James blocks with his arms.

James drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mendes is looking to take this one to the mat.

James has picked Mendes up - he's going for a ride! James dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
James throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mendes blocking the ground and pound attempt from James.

James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mendes works his way to full guard. Good work.

Mendes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. James defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Mendes told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James shoots for a double leg takedown but Mendes sprawls well. He's pushed James's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.
James dives in for a single leg takedown but Mendes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Mendes seems to have recovered his senses.

Mendes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
James tries to escape but Mendes is in control.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. James knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

James bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

James throws an overhand right that lands on Mendes's shoulder, as Mendes tries to avoid the shot.
James slips a straight right by Mendes.
Mendes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Mendes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mendes throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by James.

Mendes is pressed up against the cage. James has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mendes down to the mat. Mendes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says James as he avoids it easily.
James fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mendes avoids it really well and circles away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mendes tries a knee to the head but James blocks it.
Mendes lands a good knee to the midsection. James won't want to take too many of those.
Mendes misses with a knee strike.
James is looking to take this one to the mat.

Mendes throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but James blocks it with crossed arms.
Mendes tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

We've been told by James's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Elite Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mendes throws out the jab.
James ducks under a wild hook from Mendes.
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away.

James shoots in looking for a takedown but Mendes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mendes as he jumps to the side.
James shoots in but Mendes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendes sprawls well. Mendes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. James gets slowly back to his feet.
Mendes lands with a kick to the temple. James shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesus Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

James tries to score a body lock takedown but Mendes shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mendes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mendes shoots in looking for a takedown but James manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mendes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mendes lands with a thumping leg kick.
James is looking to wear down Mendes with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
A telegraphed right hand from James misses the target.
James misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
James tries to bum rush Mendes with a series of wild strikes but Mendes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Alex James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mendes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Mendes goes for a takedown in the clinch but James prevents it.
Alex James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesus Mendes.

Mendes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Horrible takedown by James or perhaps it was just good defense by Mendes which made him look bad.

Nice takedown defense from Mendes. No joy for James on that attempt.

Mendes feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jamess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mendes tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mendes to the ground. Mendes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

James is trying to drag Mendes to the mat but Mendes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

I think Mendes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jesus Mendes was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
