PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tokugawa Kazunari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andres Machete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazunari comes to the cage accompanied by The Seeker. Machete has chosen Sandstorm - Darude as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tokugawa Kazunari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Andres Machete!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kazunari.
Tokugawa Kazunari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machete fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kazunari has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kazunari uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Machete.
Machete fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kazunari manages to avoid it.
Machete tests Kazunari's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kazunari thows a body shot but no joy.
Kazunari is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Machete.
Machete missing with a left hand there. Kazunari was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Machete misses with a wild combination.
Machete just misses with a punch to the body.
Kazunari takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Machete rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kazunari moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Machete shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Kazunari tries to clinch there but Machete circles away.

Kazunari cracks the inside of Machete's front leg.
Kazunari scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Machete doesn't seem bothered though.
Machete has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Machete is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kazunari.
Machete connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kazunari throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Machete.

and Machete counters with a good, hard body kick but Kazunari shrugs it off.
Kazunari is looking to slow Machete down with leg kicks.
Machete throws a looping overhand right but Kazunari ducks down to avoid it.
Machete throws the kick towards the body but Kazunari avoids it.
Kazunari takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

and Machete counters with a nice body kick.
Machete misses with a two punch combination.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kazunari connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Machete fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kazunari manages to avoid it.
Kazunari checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Kazunari closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kazunari scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Machete to see if he's OK.
Machete avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kazunari.

An elbow from Kazunari crashes against the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kazunari in side control, throwing shots but Machete defends.
Kazunari misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Machete being controlled for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kazunari works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Machete is looking to regain half guard here but Kazunari keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kazunari trying to control the position but Machete is working away.
Kazunari misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kazunari throws a strike aimed at the side of Machete's head but Machete avoids it well.
Kazunari wants to lay and pray for a moment but Machete keeps working.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tokugawa Kazunari will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kazunari keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Machete tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kazunari was well out of range. Poor timing from Machete.

Kazunari ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Machete moves away.
Kazunari fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Machete.
Machete throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Machete keeps the fight on the outside.

Kazunari shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Machete is trying to defend but Kazunari finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kazunari is looking to work some ground and pound but Machete has wrist control.
Kazunari throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Machete works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Machete has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Machete throws a hook but Kazunari blocks it.
Andres Machete is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kazunari jabs Machete right on the nose. Machete blinks but takes it well.
Kazunari misses with a body shot.
A solid body kick from Kazunari.
Machete avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kazunari is defended easily by Machete.
Machete goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Machete cracks Kazunari with an open hand slap.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kazunari looks to clinch
and Machete counters with a straight right hand.
Kazunari is looking to wear down Machete with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Machete throws a good cross that connects.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kazunari is trying hard to land a takedown here. Machete sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Machete. Kazunari shrugs it off though.
Kazunari slips a jab from Machete.
Machete throws a hook but Kazunari avoids it easily.
Andres Machete seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Kazunari decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Machete's guard.
Machete is trying to control the position but Kazunari postures up.
Machete looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kazunari postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Kazunari looking to sit in guard and control but Machete gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kazunari looking to hit a scissor sweep but Machete is one step ahead there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kazunari is trying to control the position but Machete postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tokugawa Kazunari will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Kazunari throws a body kick that misses
enabling Machete to counter with a crisp jab.
Kazunari on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Kazunari attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Machete fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kazunari looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Kazunari is rocked!
Machete throws a low kick, looking for Kazunari's leg but Kazunari calmly moves out of range.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Machete checks a leg kick.
Kazunari goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Machete throws a hook but Kazunari blocks it.
Machete lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Oh Kazunari is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kazunari shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Machete sprawls well. Machete wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kazunari gets slowly back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Machete. Kazunari shrugs it off though.
Kazunari moves out of range of the body kick.
Machete looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kazunari gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Machete gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andres Machete!
