PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Gattuso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gattuso is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by WAR-Low Rider. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 23 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Gattuso!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gattuso swats away the attempt to clinch by Sanchez.
Gattuso misses with a hook. Sanchez ducked under it nicely.
Gattuso throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Sanchez.


It looks like Juan Sanchez has been cut.
Gattuso thows a left - swing and a miss!

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but Gattuso shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gattuso dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gattuso's waist but Gattuso gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side.

Sanchez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gattuso looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Sanchez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanchez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Sanchez is looking to take a break and control but Gattuso is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gattuso looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sanchez gets control of Gattuso's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sanchez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Javier Gattuso hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

The fight stays on the outside here - Sanchez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gattuso breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sanchez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gattuso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gattuso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gattuso has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sanchez is proving hard to escape from.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gattuso lands a big head kick that sends Sanchez tumbling to the mat! Gattuso takes a step backwards and waves Sanchez back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up with Gattuso, looking for a takedown. Sanchez pushes Gattuso against the cage but Gattuso circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Gattuso tries to pull guard but Sanchez holds him up against the cage and eventually Gattuso drops back down to his feet.

Sanchez has hold of one of Gattuso's legs. Gattuso is fighting the takedown attempt but Sanchez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Javier Gattuso is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Juan Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sanchez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gattuso manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sanchez has Gattuso in his guard.

Sanchez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gattuso has his hands on Sanchez's head, controlling the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sanchez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Javier Gattuso comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Gattuso winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
