PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Campos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis has chosen Coldplay - Clocks as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Mr Phil Davis enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Campos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mr Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Campos is trying to defend but Davis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Campos wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.
Campos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Davis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Campos's head.
Campos manages to get to full guard.
Campos tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Campos preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Davis wants to control from the top but Campos keeps moving.

Davis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Campos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Campos has escaped and now he's on top!

Davis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Campos defends it easily.

Campos advances to half guard.

Davis actively working from the bottom here.
Davis felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Campos is looking to advance position but Davis won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis tries to get to full guard but Campos has control of the leg.
We've been hearing good reports from Campos's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Campos is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Davis can't escape the position.
Davis wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Campos.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Campos tries to control but Davis wriggling away.

Campos trying to control but Davis is having none of it.
Campos punching from mount but Davis doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Campos moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Davis has worked his arm free - good work by Davis!
Davis tries to improve position but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You can see the frustration on Davis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Campos advances nicely into full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lucas Campos will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Davis shoots in but no luck this time.
Davis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Campos circles away.
Lucas Campos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Campos lands a head kick!


It looks like Mr Phil Davis has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Campos has closed the distance and engaged Davis in a clinch.

Campos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Davis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Campos.
Davis throws a jab when Campos was well out of range.
Davis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lucas Campos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Phil Davis.
Davis shoots in for a double leg but Campos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Davis shoots in for a takedown but Campos shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Campos counters with a thumping low kick.
Davis is breathing heavily.

Davis avoids the head kick by Campos.
Campos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Davis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Campos. Those never looked like landing.

Oooooh!!! Campos has knocked Davis down with a huge combo! Campos steps away and waves a wobbly Davis back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Davis creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Campos lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Campos breaks the clinch.
Davis tries for a takedown but Campos circles away easily
and Campos counters with a head kick that wobbles Davis - left then right he sways and one more bomb from Campos sends him down. This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lucas Campos!
