Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Abott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hjalti Eyj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abott comes to the cage accompanied by The Winner Takes it All!. Eyj has chosen I'm Sexy and I Know It as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Abott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hjalti Eyj!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Eyj manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Abott on his heels. He'll look to pass Abott's guard now, I'm sure.
Abott is looking to stand up but Eyj isn't so interested in that idea.
Abott keeping moving, preventing Eyj from controlling successfully.
Eyj trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Eyj trying to control the position from guard on top but Abott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Eyj is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Abott wants to stand and escape but Eyj is having none of it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Hjalti Eyj wasn't active enough on the ground.
Abott displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Eyj.
Abott tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Eyj manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Good leg kick by Eyj there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Abott feints and as Eyj raises his hands in defense, Abott changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eyj is pulling down on Abott's head to control his posture.
Abott keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Eyj's head.
Eyj wants to sweep but no luck.
Eyj is trying to keep Abott in close.
Abott with a flurry of punches that miss.
Eyj pulls Abott in close to prevent any damage.
Eyj's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Abott keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Eyj's head.
Our spies down at at VENDETTA Elite Gym inform us that Eyj has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Eyj holds on and takes a little breather.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hjalti Eyj was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Abott tries to clinch but Eyj moves away
and Eyj counters with a head kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Eyj, right into the meat.

Abott tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Eyj throws a front kick aimed at Abott's knee but Abott avoids it well.
Abott checks a low kick from Eyj.
Eyj avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Abott wants to clinch but Eyj slips to the side
and Eyj counters with a low kick, right behind Abott 's knee.
Abott defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Eyj.

Abott drives through with a takedown into Eyj's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Abott wants to get up but he can't break Eyj's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Abott throws an elbow that misses. Eyj uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Abott's guard. Nice move by Eyj!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eyj stands and throws Abott's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Eyj goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Abott rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Eyj's guard! Nice work there by Abott!
Abott is looking to work some ground and pound but Eyj has wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eyj seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Abott trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Eyj escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Abott gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Abott postures up and lands a big shot to Eyj's brow.

Eyj working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Eyj is tightening it up a little... Abott has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Abott reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Abott taps out! Nice BJJ there by Eyj!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Hjalti Eyj!
