PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jed Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul comes into the arena with Fueled -Anthrax blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jed Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Greg Davis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis shoots in and drives through. Paul sprawls well.
Paul shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Davis defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Paul.

Paul shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Nice strikes from Paul there.
Paul thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Paul lands with a punch from half guard.
Davis is trying to stand.
Paul wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davis keeps working.
Davis pushes Paul off looking to stand but Paul dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are battling for position here. Davis manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Davis wants to stand and escape but Paul is having none of it.
Davis wants to sweep but no luck.
Davis looks winded!
Paul wants to stand and escape but instead Davis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Paul is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Paul pulls Davis in close to prevent any damage.
Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paul swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paul wants to stand but Davis is controlling the position.

Paul is trying to keep Davis in close.
Paul manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Paul connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Paul sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Paul lands a nice shot to the head.

Davis tries to buck Paul off but he can't manage it.

Paul jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Davis manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Davis is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Paul asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Paul working the ground and pound but Davis is defending the strikes.
Davis keeping his opponent close.

Paul decides to stand back up. Paul steps back and let's Davis get back to his feet.
Davis dives in and grabs Paul's left leg, looking for a takedown. Paul pushes down on Davis's head and hops out.
Paul shoots in looking for a takedown. Davis tries to sprawl out of it but Paul keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Davis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jed Paul. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paul avoids the head kick by Davis.
Paul fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Paul shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Paul was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jed Paul dominated that round.
That's time! Paul's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Nice takedown defense from Paul. No joy for Davis on that attempt.
Jed Paul is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Paul fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Davis looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Davis gets a double leg takedown into Paul's guard.
Jed Paul overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Davis is looking to advance position but Paul has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Paul controlling the pace for now.
Davis is in a horrible position here. Paul smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
You get the feeling that Davis really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Davis is breathing heavily.
BOOM! Paul connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Paul is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Davis can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Paul lands with some strikes.
Paul pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Davis is rocked!

Paul jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Davis manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Paul has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Paul closes the distance and clinches.

Paul lands a takedown into guard.
Paul wants to pass the guard but Davis is keeping the position.
Paul wants to stand and escape but instead Davis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Davis looking to sit in guard and control but Paul gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Paul working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Paul has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Paul throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Davis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Paul connects with a couple of short punches.

Davis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Paul off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Paul fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Paul gets a takedown into half guard.
Paul is keen to just control but Davis is a slippery customer.

Paul not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Davis is looking to improve his position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jed Paul dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Paul looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paul shoots in looking for a takedown but Davis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Paul's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Davis closes the distance and clinches up with Paul, looking for a takedown. Davis pushes Paul against the cage but Paul circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Davis moves out of range of the leg kick from Paul.
Davis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Davis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Paul's half guard.
Paul is staying active underneath Davis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Paul pushes Davis off looking to stand but Davis dives back in and keeps control.
Paul slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Paul looking for a guillotine here but Davis defends easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Paul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Paul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Paul throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.
Davis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Paul is keeping the position for now.
Davis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Paul wants to get back to his feet but Davis is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Paul keeping moving, preventing Davis from controlling successfully.
Paul looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Greg Davis was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Davis shoots in but Paul avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Paul closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

A right hook to the body lands for Paul.
Davis has Paul pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Paul manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jed Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greg Davis.

Paul has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Davis clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Davis is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Davis is taking damage to the body and head.
Paul wants to control but Davis is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paul working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Paul working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Davis is doing well to defend. Paul seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Davis is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jed Paul!
Jed Paul tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
