Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richie McCaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Waitzel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCaw comes to the cage accompanied by Seeing Things. Waitzel has chosen Dimmu Borgir - Puritania as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richie McCaw!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Waitzel!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waitzel throws a nice looking combination but McCaw bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
McCaw misses with a straight left.
Waitzel works McCaw's body with a nice hook.
Waitzel connects with a single shot there.
McCaw tries to close the distance and clinch up but Waitzel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McCaw takes one to the chin there.
No luck for McCaw with that takedown attempt.
McCaw misses with an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Waitzel lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
McCaw will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
McCaw takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
McCaw takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Waitzel takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Waitzel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McCaw moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCaw fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richie McCaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McCaw looks to score with a jab to the body but Waitzel is just out of range.
McCaw goes for a double leg but Waitzel avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Waitzel continues to drive forward.
A nice right hand lands inside from Waitzel.
Waitzel is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Waitzel working aggressively here.
Waitzel working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Waitzel softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
McCaw is looking to take this one to the mat.
McCaw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Waitzel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Shane Waitzel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McCaw misses the shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Waitzel lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Waitzel connects with an inside leg kick.
Waitzel delivers a nice body kick.
McCaw is breathing heavily.

Waitzel lands a big uppercut and McCaw crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but McCaw looks OK. Waitzel waves McCaw back to his feet!


McCaw is rocked!


It looks like Richie McCaw has been cut.
Waitzel lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Oh McCaw is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Waitzel shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. McCaw takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Waitzel sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! McCaw bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shane Waitzel!
Shane Waitzel is the new heavyweight champion!
