PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). One is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up. The One is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marcus Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, The One!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
One is looking to clinch but Brown is avoiding it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from One enables Brown to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. One manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Brown stays in close to One's body and controls the position.
Brown in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Brown is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

One working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
One is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brown controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

One escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brown gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Brown controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Marcus Brown has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Brown manages to get an easy takedown there - catching One on his heels. He'll look to pass One's guard now, I'm sure.

Brown's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Brown passes into half guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Marcus Brown wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
One tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Brown defends well and One ends up having to push Brown into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brown lands a takedown into guard.
Brown's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Brown trying to move into half guard but instead One has managed to sweep!

Brown pushes One off and scrambles back to his feet.

Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in One's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. One swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Brown fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but One avoids it really well and circles away.
Brown has a takedown stuffed.
No luck for One with that takedown attempt.
Marcus Brown is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but One is retaining full guard.

Brown has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
One looking for a sweep. Not yet One, not yet.
One trying to keep a closed guard but Brown is proving a slippery customer.
Brown not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Marcus Brown.

Brown drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Brown is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down One's shoulder. That is not cool.

You can see the frustration on One's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

One tries to bench press Brown off him but Brown keeps the position.
Brown tries to move into full mount but can't pass One's legs.
Brown controls the position from side control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Brown shoots in and drives through. One sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brown slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brown is defended easily by One.
Brown darts in looking for a takedown but One gets double underhooks and turns Brown into the cage.

Brown is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. One can't fight it off and eventually Brown manages to take the fight to the floor. One looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
One thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
One controls Brown momentarily but Brown frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up. The One was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nice takedown defense from Brown. No joy for One on that attempt.
One throws a right hand that Brown ducks under and follows up with a left that Brown also avoids with ease.

Brown bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
One trying to remain calm as Brown controls from the top position.
Brown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for One on the ground.

Brown is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. One is trying to escape and Brown transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and One is forced to tap! Nice work there by Brown! Very nice indeed!
