PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nate Skate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henderson has chosen Thunderhorse as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nate Skate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skate checks a leg kick nicely.
Nate Skate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Skate gets a clinch.

Skate gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Henderson gets full guard.
Skate wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.
Skate won't allow Henderson to sweep him here.

Henderson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Skate is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Henderson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Skate's back instead.

Henderson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Skate has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Henderson punches the canvas rather than the man.

Skate defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

Skate avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Henderson looks gassed!

Skate wants to control from the top but Henderson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Skate slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Skate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Henderson keeps working.

Skate looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Henderson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Skate is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Henderson has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Skate prevents Henderson from escaping the position.

Skate stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Skate shoots in looking for a takedown. Henderson tries to sprawl out of it but Skate keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Henderson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Left hook, right uppercut from Henderson.
Henderson shoots and misses
and Skate counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Skate throws a combination that misses
and Henderson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Skate clinches up with Henderson and pushes him back against the cage.

Skate has picked Henderson up - he's going for a ride! Skate dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skate is trying to control the action in half guard but Henderson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Skate is looking for a kimura here.

Skate wants to work for an arm triangle but Henderson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Skate decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Henderson slips a jab and a cross from Skate.
Henderson lands a nice hook to Skate's body. Skate takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Skate blocks the body kick.
Henderson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Skate circles away.

Skate takes the fight into the clinch.
Henderson wants to get back to striking at distance but Skate won't allow it.

Skate breaks the clinch.
Skate uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Henderson.

Skate shoots in and bounces Henderson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Skate slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Skate dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Skate connects with the punch.
Skate tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Skate wants to clinch.
Henderson shoots in but Skate avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Henderson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Skate backs up against the cage.

Skate shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Henderson's guard.
Skate passes into half guard.

Skate decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Henderson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Skate counters with a nice uppercut.
Skate fails with the takedown.
Skate throws a combination. Henderson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Skate shoots in and bounces Henderson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Henderson is trying to control the position but Skate postures up.

Skate gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Skate lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Henderson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Henderson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Henderson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Skate's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Skate is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Henderson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Skate has escaped the position, nice work there.

Skate gets back to half guard.
Henderson is looking to take a break and control but Skate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Skate is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Henderson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Henderson's back!

Skate has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Henderson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Skate gets his way!
Skate is trying to stick to Henderson's back but Henderson is turning into Skate. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Skate's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Henderson.

Henderson gets to his feet. Skate looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Henderson gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Skate gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Henderson gets underhooks to prevent Skate's takedown attempt.
Henderson tries to land a knee to the head but Skate blocks with his arms.

Skate breaks from the clinch.
Henderson smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Good exchange - Skate coming out on top.
Skate pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Henderson scores with a crisp jab that stopped Skate in his tracks.
Skate throws a series of punches but Henderson moves out of range.
Henderson throws a half hearted mid kick.
Henderson closes the distance looking to clinch
and Skate counters with a left to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Henderson misses with a low kick.
Henderson throws a right and a left that Skate avoids nicely.

Skate closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Skate lands in his opponent's guard.
Skate prevents Henderson from getting back to his feet.
Skate stopping the sweep attempt from Henderson.
Skate throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Skate drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Skate jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Henderson is trying to keep Skate in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Skate dominated that second round.
That's time! Skate's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Skate takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Henderson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Skate looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Skate showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Henderson.
Skate gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Henderson throws a head kick but Skate moves out of range.
Skate misses with a double jab
and Henderson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Skate thinking.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Skate decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Henderson pushes Skate off looking to stand but Skate dives back in and keeps control.
Skate works his foot free and advances to mount.
Henderson wants to hold on but Skate pushes him away.

Skate jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Henderson manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Henderson can't do much from the bottom here.
Henderson is trying to get back to half guard.

Skate thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Henderson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Skate's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Henderson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Skate gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Skate drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Skate stands up.
Nice straight punches there by Henderson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Henderson.

Skate fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Henderson has a takedown stuffed.

Skate trying to control but Henderson is working from the bottom.

Skate drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Henderson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Skate has Henderson in his guard.
Henderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
