Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Ogden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Ogden!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ogden moves in looking to clinch but Penn pushes him off.
Ogden stuffs the takedown.
Ogden keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ogden fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Penn, pushing him back against the cage.

Ogden breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ogden tries to clinch up.
Ogden throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Penn.
Penn tries for a takedown but Ogden sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chuck Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penn fails with the takedown.
Ogden moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Penn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Penn tries to score with some ground and pound. Ogden controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Ogden is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Penn tries for a kimura but Ogden is defending well.
Ogden holds on to Penn's head and controls the position momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ogden is looking for a sweep.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Penn shoots for a takedown but Ogden saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ogden but Ogden pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Penn looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Ogden bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ogden wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ogden is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Penn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Penn tries to buck Ogden off but Ogden is having none of it.

Ogden stands up.
Nice takedown defense from Ogden. No joy for Penn on that attempt.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ogden instigates a clinch.
Ogden unloads a knee to the mid-section. Penn lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
A knee to the head by Ogden.


It looks like Chuck Penn has been cut.
Penn on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ogden smiles and moves away.
Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Ogden.
Penn lands a nice looking body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Ogden dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Chuck Penn's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Penn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ogden lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ogden doesn't manage to clinch there - Penn circles away.
Ogden thows a body shot but no joy.
Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ogden counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ogden.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn managing to block the knees to the body from Ogden.
A head punch on the inside from Penn fails to land.
Ogden drops down looking for an ankle pick but Penn pulls his leg out and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Penn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ogden throws a series of punches but Penn moves out of range.
Ogden with a lazy takedown attempt

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ogden won't be happy with that.
Penn looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Ogden is avoiding damage well.
Ogden prevents Penn from moving into mount.
Ogden can't do much from the bottom here.
Ogden misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Penn throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Ogden works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Ogden is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Penn's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Penn's back!
Ogden controlling well, preventing Penn from escaping the position.
I would not like to be Penn right now.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Ogden's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Penn breaks Ogden's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Penn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ogden dives on top into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Penn throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ogden escapes and throws Penn's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Ogden wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Penn, who protects the arm well.
Ogden tries to move to mount but Penn blocks the move with his legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Penn is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Penn wants to get back to his feet but Ogden drags him back down.
Penn stops Ogden from passing to mount.
Penn regains half guard.
Penn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ogden's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ogden's back!
Penn thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Penn has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Penn dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Chuck Penn's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Penn clinches up with Ogden and pushes him back against the cage.

Ogden pulls guard.
Penn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ogden is proving hard to escape from.
Ogden looking for a sweep. Not yet Ogden, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ogden is working an open guard so Penn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Penn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Penn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Penn can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ogden is looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ogden regains half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ogden wants to get back to full guard.

Penn decides to stand up.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Ogden shows good takedown defense.
Penn shoots and misses
and Ogden counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penn circles away from the clinch attempt

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ogden won't be happy with that.
Ogden is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Penn off and has taken his back!
Ogden is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
I really don't envy Penn right now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ogden keeps control of the position easily here as Penn tries to buck him off.
You can see the frustration on Penn's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ogden controlling well, preventing Penn from escaping the position.
Ogden tries to keep control of the position but Penn is staying busy.
Penn tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Penn is working to get back to half guard.
Penn is working hard here to advance position.
Penn is trying to escape the mount but Ogden keeps good control and instead manages to take Penn's back.
Penn rolls, trying to escape but Ogden keeps control of the position.
Ogden biding his time, looking for the opening.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chuck Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Penn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
