PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penncil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Alfalla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ray Alfalla!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penncil looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Penncil tries to clinch up but Alfalla circles away and keeps his distance.

Penncil shoots in and drives through. Alfalla sprawls well.
Penncil wants to clinch
and Alfalla counters with a straight right hand.

Alfalla pushes Penncil up against the cage in a clinch.
Penncil tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Alfalla just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penncil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penncil tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Alfalla smiles and moves away.
Alfalla dips to his left and cracks Penncil with an uppercut!

Alfalla throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Penncil was covering up waiting for the punch and Alfalla finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Penncil can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alfalla controls the pace.
Alfalla wants to stand but Penncil has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Alfalla is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ray Alfalla.

Penncil sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Penncil is looking to control Alfalla's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Penncil avoid being mounted?

Alfalla stands up out of the half guard.
Penncil shoots in and drives through. Alfalla sprawls well.
Penncil shoots in looking for a takedown but Alfalla manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Penncil's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Penncil wants to clinch but Alfalla slips to the side

and Alfalla moves into the clinch.

Alfalla has hold of one of Penncil's legs. Penncil is fighting the takedown attempt but Alfalla gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Alfalla passes Penncil's left leg - he's now in half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Penncil moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Penncil throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Penncil is looking for a triangle but Alfalla pushes his legs off easily.
Alfalla would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Alfalla stands up and waves to Penncil to follow him.

Penncil decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Alfalla dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Penncil goes for a double leg but Alfalla avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Alfalla continues to drive forward.

Alfalla gets control of Penncil's arms and successfully pulls guard. Alfalla will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Alfalla seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Penncil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alfalla swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Penncil is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Alfalla is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Alfalla has escaped and now he's on top!
Alfalla controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Alfalla must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Alfalla gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Penncil is desperately trying to improve his position but Alfalla has a good base and remains in mount.

Penncil slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alfalla in particular looking to stall.

Ray Alfalla showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Penncil moves to clinch but Alfalla breaks away

Alfalla scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Penncil to see if he's OK.
Penncil takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Alfalla wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penncil keeps working.
The referee asks Alfalla politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Alfalla prefers to stall for the moment though.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ray Alfalla wasn't active enough on the ground.
Alfalla ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Penncil moves away.
Alfalla tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Alfalla looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Penncil!
Penncil manages to work his way to half guard, despite Alfalla's best efforts.

Still in half guard, Alfalla seems content to control.
Penncil is pressing down on Alfalla's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Alfalla has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Penncil is proving hard to escape from.

Alfalla got a little sloppy there for a moment and Penncil has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alfalla has managed to get both his arms back between Penncil's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alfalla is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Penncil defends it well.

Penncil is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alfalla's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alfalla's back!

Alfalla defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Penncil's arms.

Penncil has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Alfalla just trying to survive but Penncil is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Penncil has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Alfalla has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Alfalla tries to escape but Penncil has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Penncil is cranking Alfalla's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Alfalla! He's tightened the choke and Alfalla is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). BJ Penncil!
