PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dirt McGirt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jed Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGirt comes to the cage accompanied by Shimmy Shimmy Ya. Paul comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Fueled -Anthrax kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Dirt McGirt has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Dirt McGirt seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dirt McGirt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jed Paul!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Paul duly obliges.
Paul throws a left and a right that both miss
and McGirt counters with a series of strikes. Paul will be more careful next time no doubt.
Paul scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
McGirt looks to land a combination. Paul sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Jed Paul has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Paul forces McGirt back against the cage and clinches.
Paul wants to take the fight to the mat but McGirt manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Paul tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

McGirt pulls Paul into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Paul gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The fight stays on the outside here - Paul looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Paul slips a jab and a cross from McGirt.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Paul is defended easily by McGirt.

McGirt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Paul manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McGirt has Paul in his guard.
McGirt wants to sweep here but Paul controlling him for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McGirt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Paul gets to his feet. McGirt looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McGirt misses with a wild body shot.
McGirt takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

McGirt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Paul, pushing him back against the cage.

Paul jumps guard but McGirt turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Paul has McGirt pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Paul pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McGirt tumbling to the mat - Paul dives into McGirt's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGirt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGirt definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Paul passes easily into side control. Nice work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGirt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paul is working away from the top position though.
McGirt is refusing to be controlled, as Paul sits in half guard.
Paul thows a huge punch but McGirt dodges it nicely.
My spies in Pitbull MMA inform me that Paul has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Paul shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

McGirt is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Paul presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

McGirt looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Paul shoots in but McGirt avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Well, if McGirt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

McGirt is looking to take a break and control but Paul is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Paul kicks McGirt off and gets back to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from McGirt as Paul shoots in.
McGirt leaves Paul with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Paul fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McGirt avoids it really well and circles away.

McGirt closes the distance and clinches.

McGirt has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Paul clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Paul is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake McGirt off. It looks like it's working - McGirt slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Paul displaying calm under pressure there.
McGirt pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Paul back to the cage. McGirt follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Dirt McGirt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Paul throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sloppy strikes from Paul. Those never looked like landing.
Jed Paul is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
No luck for Paul with that takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McGirt rushes Paul and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

McGirt jumps into guard, dragging Paul to the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dirt McGirt showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Paul has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
