PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gideon Jura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jura has chosen Pain - Dancing with the dead as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gideon Jura!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tate misses with a hook. Jura ducked under it nicely.
Tate dodges the punch combination from Jura.
Nice jab there from Jura.
We've been hearing reports that Tate has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Tate has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jura finds it's way round the side to connect with Tate's head.
Tate slips a jab from Jura.
Jura throws a series of punches but Tate avoids them all with ease.
Tate tries to move into range but Jura moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Tate closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jura is not content to let Tate control the position.
Jura manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Jura is looking for a sweep. Tate is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jura has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Tate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jura keeps working.

Tate missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Tate throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jura preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A nice leg kick lands there from Tate.
Tate does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Jura cracks Tate with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jura throws a body punch but Tate moves out of range.
Tate throws a chopping leg kick but Jura manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Tate lands a leg kick that knocks Jura off balance momentarily.
Tate moves out of range of the strikes.
Tate turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Tate throws a solid leg kick but Jura takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Tate.
Tate will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Jura swings widly with a right hand
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Tate drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Tate tries to score with some ground and pound. Jura controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Tate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jura keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tate tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Jura is looking to reverse the position.
Tate throwing shots but missing, from side control.
You can see the frustration on Jura's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Tate landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Tate looks up at the clock and then as Jura takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Tate smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Jura tries to bench press Tate off him but Tate keeps the position.

Tate tries to move into full mount but can't pass Jura's legs.
Jura on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tate looks up at the clock and then as Jura takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Tate smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tate wants to control but Jura is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tate working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Jura pushes Tate away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tate gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Jura dodges the ground and pound from Tate.
Jura taking a bit of punishment here - Tate scoring with strikes.
The ground and pound from Tate seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Tate sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Jura is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Jura is not content to let Tate control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jura can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Tate dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Tate thuds his right hand into Jura's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tate lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Jura swings for the body but Tate moves out of range.
Tate takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jura crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Tate - the referee stops the clock and Jura gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Tate. Jura manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Jura throws an off balance right hand
and Tate counters with an outside leg kick.
Jura misses with a straight right.
Jura connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Jura moves forwards but Tate connects with a nice, crisp jab.


Jura is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tate throws a leg kick which misses Jura's front leg but catches the back leg as Jura tries to avoid it.
Jura is still on wobbly legs! Can Tate finish him?
Tate connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Tate buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jura is breathing heavily.
Tate scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Tate connects with an inside leg kick.
Tate lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Tate is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Jura flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Jura is out cold! Tate holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Calvin Tate!
