Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Julian Eduardo Demaestri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Demaestri shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thomas pinned against the cage. Thomas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Thomas goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Julian Eduardo Demaestri has been cut.
Demaestri takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Thomas throws a sloppy head kick and Demaestri moves out of range easily.
Demaestri shoots in and drives through. Thomas sprawls well.
Thomas slaps away a takedown attempt from Demaestri, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julian Eduardo Demaestri. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Demaestri wants to clinch up but Thomas keeps it at a distance.

Thomas tries to sprawl but Demaestri drives through with a takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Demaestri is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Thomas keeping hold of Demaestri's head, controlling as best he can.

Demaestri is working for a kimura but Thomas is defending it quite comfortably.

Demaestri wants to work for an arm triangle but Thomas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Demaestri tries to pass to full mount but Thomas defends it.

Demaestri is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've been hearing good reports from Demaestri's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Demaestri is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thomas is just riding it out for now. Demaestri eventually gives up the hold.
Thomas tries to roll over but Demaestri keeps him under control.

Demaestri is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Thomas manages to get to full guard.

Demaestri is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thomas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thomas has escaped and now he's on top!
Thomas engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Thomas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Demaestri is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Demaestri working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Thomas has passed into half guard!

Demaestri is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Thomas pulls his head out easily.

Demaestri looking for a kimura from the bottom but Thomas passes into side control!

Thomas decides to stand back up. Thomas steps back and let's Demaestri get back to his feet.
Thomas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Demaestri.
Thomas throws a head kick that Demaestri semi-blocks.
Demaestri takes a head kick and keeps coming.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Demaestri has his takedown stuffed
and Thomas counters with a solid body kick.
Demaestri is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A chopping leg kick lands by Thomas.
Thomas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Thomas.
Nice takedown defense from Thomas. No joy for Demaestri on that attempt.
Thomas explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Thomas throws a leg kick which misses Demaestri's front leg but catches the back leg as Demaestri tries to avoid it.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Thomas. Demaestri shrugs it off though.
Thomas lands a big head kick that sends Demaestri to the canvas! Thomas follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dean Thomas!
An out of breath Dean Thomas thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
