PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ove Sundberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Nickoson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alexander Nickoson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ove Sundberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Nickoson!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickoson lands a slapping body shot.
Sundberg shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nickoson sprawls well. Nickoson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sundberg gets slowly back to his feet.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Nickoson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Nickoson throws a right hand that Sundberg ducks under and follows up with a left that Sundberg also avoids with ease.
Sundberg tries for a takedown but Nickoson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nickoson scores with a three punch combo!
Sundberg throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nickoson's waist but Nickoson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sundberg off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ove Sundberg. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nickoson is trying to force a seperation but Sundberg has the dominant position.

Sundberg works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Nickoson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nickoson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sundberg. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sundberg throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nickoson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sundberg drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sundberg jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Nickoson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sundberg thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Sundberg is in close to Nickoson's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sundberg loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nickoson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nickoson tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sundberg is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nickoson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sundberg is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nickoson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sundberg is working to tighten his grip on Nickoson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Nickoson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sundberg is really squeezing tight and eventually Nickoson passes out! Sundberg breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ove Sundberg!
