PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Ankudinov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raivis Vidzis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ankudinov's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I must break you.. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eric Ankudinov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Raivis Vidzis!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ankudinov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vidzis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ankudinov is in Vidzis's guard.
Vidzis wants to stand and escape but Ankudinov is having none of it.
Ankudinov postures up in Vidzis's guard and throws a big left but Vidzis blocks it.
Ankudinov with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ankudinov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ankudinov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Ankudinov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ankudinov looking to sit in guard and control but Vidzis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vidzis is looking to stand up but Ankudinov won't let him.

Ankudinov wants to sweep here but Vidzis controlling him for the moment.
Vidzis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ankudinov's guard.

Ankudinov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ankudinov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ankudinov is looking to stand up but Vidzis isn't so interested in that idea.
Ankudinov pulls Vidzis in to control the position.
Ankudinov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ankudinov is looking for a triangle but Vidzis pushes his legs off easily.
Ankudinov manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vidzis can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ankudinov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Vidzis looks a forlorn figure.


It looks like Raivis Vidzis has been cut.

Ankudinov is working for a guillotine from mount but Vidzis frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vidzis wants to try and get back to his feet.

Ankudinov pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Vidzis avoids a series of strikes thrown by Ankudinov.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vidzis is trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vidzis is in a horrible position here. Ankudinov smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vidzis is squirming around, avoiding Ankudinov's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Ankudinov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Vidzis slips under a jab from Ankudinov.
Vidzis has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Ankudinov.
Ankudinov digs a good body shot into Vidzis's ribs.
Ankudinov takes a swing at Vidzis's ribcage but misses.
Ankudinov shoots in for a takedown but Vidzis shows good takedown defense.
Ankudinov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vidzis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ankudinov somewhat.
Ankudinov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Vidzis counters with a shoot takedown. Ankudinov fights it but they end up in guard.
Ankudinov is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vidzis is controlling him.

Ankudinov wriggles free and stands up.

Ankudinov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Ankudinov throws an elbow but Vidzis slips to the side and avoids it well.
Vidzis is trying to get back to his feet.
Vidzis parries the strikes from Ankudinov easily there. Ankudinov is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vidzis to escape.

Vidzis regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ankudinov's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Ankudinov is keen to just control but Vidzis is a slippery customer.
Ankudinov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Eric Ankudinov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Eric Ankudinov has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Ankudinov scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Vidzis is breathing heavily.

A combination from Ankudinov does no damage.

Ankudinov has managed to clinch.

and Vidzis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Vidzis.

Ankudinov is looking to stand up but Vidzis isn't so interested in that idea.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ankudinov is trying to keep Vidzis in close.
Vidzis stops Ankudinov from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Ankudinov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ankudinov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ankudinov scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ankudinov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ankudinov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vidzis's head.
Vidzis is not content to let Ankudinov control the position.
Ankudinov is looking to stall here but Vidzis recovers full guard.

Ankudinov wants to control from the top but Vidzis keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Eric Ankudinov just wasn't active enough.
Ankudinov motions for Vidzis to come forward. Ankudinov throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Vidzis takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Eric Ankudinov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ankudinov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ankudinov doesn't manage to clinch there - Vidzis circles away.

Ankudinov throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ankudinov fails to land with a series of punches.
Ankudinov darts in looking for a takedown but Vidzis gets double underhooks and turns Ankudinov into the cage.
Vidzis wants a takedown but no success here.

Ankudinov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ankudinov shoots in but Vidzis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ankudinov throws a looping overhand right but Vidzis ducks down to avoid it.
Ankudinov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vidzis but Vidzis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Ankudinov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ankudinov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vidzis to the mat! Vidzis manages to get full guard.
Vidzis wants to stand up but Ankudinov is controlling him.
Ankudinov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Raivis Vidzis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ankudinov has gone for a leg lock! Vidzis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ankudinov's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Eric Ankudinov just wasn't active enough.

Ankudinov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ankudinov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ankudinov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vidzis keeps working.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eric Ankudinov showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ankudinov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
