Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eddyy Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brandon Paul!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Topper Green and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Paul changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gonzales looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Gonzales keeps Paul under control for a moment.
Paul slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Gonzales.
Paul controlling from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gonzales tries to lock up and control but Paul gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gonzales is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Gonzales tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brandon Paul hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Gonzales has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Paul is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Paul is looking to break free of the clinch but Gonzales has double underhooks.

Gonzales's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Gonzales tries to sprawl but Paul drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Paul stands up and beckons Gonzales to his feet.

That's time! Gonzales's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Gonzales throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Paul's waist but Paul gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gonzales off to one side.

Paul moves into the clinch.

Gonzales breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Paul is defended easily by Gonzales.

Paul closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Paul wants to pass to mount but Gonzales is defending the position.
Gonzales wants to control but Paul is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Paul seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Paul must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Gonzales has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Paul has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Paul tries to bum rush Gonzales with a series of wild strikes but Gonzales uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gonzales tries to score a power double leg takedown but Paul sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gonzales somewhat.

Paul shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gonzales is trying to defend but Paul finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
