PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jake Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruise Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Mortal Kombat Theme. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bruise Lee!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lee to the mat! Lee manages to get full guard.

Mendes drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Mendes off! Mendes jumps back into Lee's guard.

Mendes stands and steps away. Lee gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Lee shoots in looking for a takedown. Mendes tries to sprawl out of it but Lee keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mendes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lee looks to clinch

and Mendes counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mendes drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Mendes off! Mendes jumps back into Lee's guard.

Mendes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lee trying to keep a closed guard but Mendes is proving a slippery customer.
Lee tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lee looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mendes controlling from the top position.
Lee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Lee keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully.

Mendes drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Mendes off! Mendes jumps back into Lee's guard.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Mendes stands up from Lee's guard - Mendes perhaps looking for a knockout.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick and Mendes moves out of range easily.
Lee tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Mendes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mendes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mendes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Lee controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lee had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendes defends it easily.
Lee is trying to keep Mendes in close.
Mendes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Mendes advances to half guard.
Lee is trying to control but can't.
Lee tries to get to full guard but Mendes has control of the leg.

Mendes is looking for a kimura here.

Mendes is working for a kimura but Lee is defending it quite comfortably.
Lee keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Mendes is trying to control. Lee wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Lee is trying to maintain the position but Mendes is very close to passing his half guard.

Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lee wants to control but Mendes is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bruise Lee was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Lee darts in trying to clinch

so Mendes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mendes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lee has taken the fight to the clinch.

Mendes gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee trying to control here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lee can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mendes is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Lee is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jake Mendes!
Jake Mendes seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Bruise Lee was interviewed post fight and said 'That's it. I'm done. '.
