PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Bergstrand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Bichard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bichard tries to clinch but Bergstrand moves out of range.
Kai Bichard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bergstrand avoids the head kick by Bichard.
Bichard tries to clinch up but Bergstrand circles away and keeps his distance.

Bichard shoots in and drives through. Bergstrand sprawls well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bichard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fight stays on the outside here - Bichard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bergstrand closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bichard is not content to let Bergstrand control the position.
Bichard is trying to maintain the position but Bergstrand is very close to passing his half guard.

Bergstrand is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bergstrand wants to pass the guard but Bichard is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bichard tries to roll over but Bergstrand keeps him under control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Chris Bergstrand has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Bichard.

Bichard goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

and Bergstrand counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bichard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bergstrand doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bergstrand manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bichard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Chris Bergstrand overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bichard gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Bergstrand swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bichard is now in Bergstrand's guard. A big mistake from Bergstrand there, giving up the dominant position!

Bichard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bergstrand, who protects the arm well.
Bergstrand is trying to control Bichard's posture but Bichard avoids it.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Bergstrand walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bichard checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Bergstrand lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bichard!

Kai Bichard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kai Bichard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bergstrand has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
