PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Enrique Rold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vecheslav Gurin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gurin has chosen Dolphin - I Will Live as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Enrique Rold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vecheslav Gurin!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gurin with a poor takedown
and Rold counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Rold just misses with a punch to the body.
Rold works Gurin's body with a nice hook.
Gurin has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Gurin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gurin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rold does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rold is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rold is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gurin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gurin's back!

Vecheslav Gurin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Gurin takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Rold takes a swing at Gurin's ribcage but misses.
Gurin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rold is fending him off so far but Gurin persists. Nope, Rold circles away and we're back to standing.
Rold just misses with a punch to the body.
Gurin misses with a takedown attempt - Rold sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rold fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gurin on the side of the head.
Gurin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rold but Rold pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Enrique Rold has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vecheslav Gurin.

Gurin takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Gurin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rold tests Gurin's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Rold counters with a series of strikes. Gurin will be more careful next time no doubt.

Vecheslav Gurin has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Gurin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rold is fending him off so far but Gurin persists. Nope, Rold circles away and we're back to standing.

Rold lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
It looks like Rold has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Gurin avoids a punch combination nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gurin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rold manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

After the fight, Enrique Rold was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
