The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mayer looking to score a takedown here. Mcclain is defending well but Mayer drives through and ends up in Mcclain's guard.

Mcclain looking for a guillotine here but Mayer defends easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mcclain looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mayer trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcclain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mcclain is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mayer defends well.

Mcclain distracts Mayer with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mayer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mayer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcclain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mayer has a closed guard, preventing Mcclain from standing up.
Mayer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mcclain is controlling him.

Mayer is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mcclain reverses the position - he's now on top in Mayer's guard.

Mcclain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
