Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Peter Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jens Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Johnson had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jens Pulver!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses the shot to the body.
Johnson scores with a jab.
Johnson scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pulver in his tracks.
Johnson misses with a two punch combination.
Johnson throws a hook but Pulver avoids it easily.

Johnson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pulver swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Johnson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pulver is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Johnson, into his guard.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pulver has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johnson is proving hard to escape from.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pulver darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.

Pulver escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Johnson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Johnson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Pulver has worked his arm free - good work by Pulver!

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Pulver is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Johnson is controlling him well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Johnson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pulver has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Johnson but great work by Pulver.
Pulver really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pulver stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pulver swivels and escapes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pulver looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnson throws a jab but it's blocked by Pulver.

Johnson looks to land a combination but Pulver avoids it well.

Pulver gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pulver lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Pulver will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Johnson up against the cage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Johnson shoots in but Pulver avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pulver connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Johnson's hands.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pulver wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.
Johnson loads up on a big right hand but Pulver slips the punch.
Johnson throws an overhand right that lands on Pulver's shoulder, as Pulver tries to avoid the shot.
Nice takedown defense from Pulver. No joy for Johnson on that attempt.

Johnson shoots in but no luck this time.

Pulver closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Johnson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pulver fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pulver clinches up with Johnson and pushes him back against the cage.

Johnson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Pulver regains guard.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pulver manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Pulver in his guard.

Johnson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Johnson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pulver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pulver can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Johnson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pulver is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Johnson.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pulver tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Pulver sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Pulver manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Johnson struggles to land a body shot inside as Pulver controls his hands.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Pulver takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pulver throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Johnson blocks it with crossed arms.
Johnson has a couple of punches blocked by Pulver.

Jens Pulver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pulver has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
