Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Seth Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Federico Toriero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Federico Toriero will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Seth Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Federico Toriero!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Seth Pope has been cut.
Federico Toriero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Toriero throws a hook but Pope avoids it easily.

Toriero misses with a two punch combination.
Pope walks into a left hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A looping hook to the body misses from Toriero. Pope does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pope could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Pope throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Toriero tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pope is in Toriero's guard.
Toriero wants to stand but Pope is controlling the position.
Toriero keeping moving, preventing Pope from controlling successfully.
Pope working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Pope will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pope slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Pope stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Toriero throws a series of punches but Pope moves out of range.
Toriero throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pope walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Toriero lunges at Pope with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Pope's hand.
Sloppy strikes from Toriero. Those never looked like landing.
Toriero throws a series of punches but Pope moves out of range.

Pope content to stall in guard here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pope passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pope gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Federico Toriero is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Pope has managed to clinch.

Pope escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Toriero looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Toriero tries to circle away but Pope has him pinned against the cage.

Pope is trying to control the action in half guard but Toriero is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

We're going to have a standup here because Seth Pope wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Toriero throws a nice looking combination but Pope bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Toriero takes a swing at Pope's ribcage but misses.
Toriero looks to land a combination but Pope avoids it well.

Pope throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Toriero was covering up waiting for the punch and Pope finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Pope engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Pope looking to sit in guard and control but Toriero gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Toriero is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pope is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Toriero to the mat. Toriero regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Pope looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Pope working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Toriero's thigh. Toriero counters though and makes it back to full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pope loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Pope with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Toriero to score with a decent uppercut.
Pope fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Toriero connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Pope momentarily.

Toriero wants to stand but Pope has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Toriero takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Toriero throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pope throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Toriero tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pope was well out of range. Poor timing from Toriero.
Pope shoots in looking for a takedown but Toriero manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pope's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Toriero misses with a straight left.

Pope changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Toriero looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pope is landing with some decent strikes but Toriero is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Pope tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Pope misses with a wild combination.
Toriero's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Toriero duly obliges.

Pope fails with an attempt to clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pope with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Federico Toriero has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pope seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Seth Pope.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pope, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
