PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ken McCorronas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam Marshall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ken McCorronas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adam Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marshall clinches with his opponent.
McCorronas looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
McCorronas lands a left hand.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
McCorronas misses with an elbow over the top.
Marshall is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Marshall manages to break the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McCorronas enables Marshall to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McCorronas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McCorronas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McCorronas wants to sweep here but Marshall controlling him for the moment.

We've been hearing good reports from McCorronas's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshall holds on, trying desperately to control.
Marshall is squirming around, avoiding McCorronas's attempts to control the action.

McCorronas controlling the pace for now.

McCorronas looking to control but Marshall is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCorronas tries to push Marshall's head away but Marshall is holding on tight.
Marshall is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



McCorronas gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Marshall has hold of one of McCorronas's legs. McCorronas is fighting the takedown attempt but Marshall gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Marshall must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marshall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Marshall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Marshall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McCorronas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McCorronas is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Marshall looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Marshall throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Marshall seems to be working for a kimura but McCorronas defends the submission attempt.

Marshall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCorronas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Marshall throws an elbow that misses. McCorronas uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marshall's guard. Nice move by McCorronas!

McCorronas controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

McCorronas is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Adam Marshall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ken McCorronas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Marshall.
Marshall is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McCorronas pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Marshall has picked McCorronas up - he's going for a ride! Marshall dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Marshall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCorronas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McCorronas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marshall defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marshall postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Marshall postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McCorronas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marshall, into his guard.

McCorronas stands up from Marshall's guard - McCorronas perhaps looking for a knockout.
Adam Marshall is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marshall shoots in looking for a takedown. McCorronas tries to sprawl out of it but Marshall keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McCorronas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

McCorronas closes the distance and clinches.

McCorronas looking to throw knees to the head but Marshall is blocking nicely.
McCorronas prevents a takedown attempt there.
McCorronas lands a nice elbow.
A nice glancing elbow lands by McCorronas.
McCorronas throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Marshall blocks it with crossed arms.
Marshall looking for a takedown.
McCorronas misses with an elbow over the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
With the fighters up against the cage, McCorronas throws an elbow but misses.
Marshall putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has McCorronas in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Ken McCorronas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Marshall manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ken McCorronas.
I think Marshall has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
