PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Yap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Game Over (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yap kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Game. Jay Yap could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Game Over's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jay Yap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Game Over!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Over misses with the combination.
Over doesn't manage to clinch there - Yap circles away.
Over shoots in looking for a takedown. Yap tries to sprawl out of it but Over keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yap manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Yap slips under a jab from Over.
Over dodges the punch combination from Yap.
Over scores with a shot to the body.
Over tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Over tries to clinch up but Yap circles away and keeps his distance.
Over looks for a takedown but Yap sprawls well.
Over has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
A left and a right from Yap both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Game Over has been cut.
Yap scores with a jab to the head.
Yap throws a series of punches but Over moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Over.
Jay Yap has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Game Over.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Yap scores with a hook to the body. Over takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Yap. No joy for Over on that attempt.
Jay Yap is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Over showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Yap.
Yap looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Over shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Over was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Yap gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Yap is trying to maintain the position but Over is very close to passing his half guard.
Over throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Over decides to stand up.
Yap steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Over.

Over closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Yap quickly recovers to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Yap regains full guard. Nicely done.
Over controlling from the top position.
Over trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Over trying to control but Yap is working from the bottom.
Yap is trying to keep Over in close.
Yap wants to stand but Over is controlling the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Over passes Yap's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Over sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Yap defending well though.
Over trying to pass the guard but Yap defending well.
Over landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Over trying to control the action but Yap is working from the bottom.
Over stops Yap from getting back to his feet.

Over is trying to work for a kimura but Yap is defending well.
Over is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Over decides to stand and escape the position.
Some wild striking there from Yap.
Yap misses with a few strikes there.
Over tries to clinch up.
Yap cracks a nice hook into Over's ribs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yap scores with a hook to the body. Over takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
A punch combination from Yap misses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Game Over seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Over tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yap swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Game Over dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Game Over's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Yap throws a hook to the side of Over's head but Over sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Over fails in his attempt to clinch.
Yap ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Over moves away.
Over fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Over tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Over gets a takedown into half guard.

Over is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yap is just riding it out for now. Over eventually gives up the hold.
Over is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yap is refusing to be controlled, as Over sits in half guard.
Yap keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Over is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Yap reverses the position - he's now on top in Over's guard.
Yap trying to control but Over is working from the bottom.

Over pushes Yap off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Yap scores with a body shot.
Yap connects with a combination that backs up Over into the cage. Yap lands a flurry of punches that gets past Over's guard. Over is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Yap bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jay Yap!
A relieved looking Jay Yap thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
