Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erik Saba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Erik Saba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saba fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Thompson or perhaps it was just good defense by Saba which made him look bad.

Saba pushes Thompson up against the cage in a clinch.

Saba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Thompson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Saba circles away.
Saba throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Saba misses with a takedown
and Thompson counters with a straight right hand.
Erik Saba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Saba gets caught flat footed, as Thompson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Thompson trying to control the position from guard on top but Saba is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Thompson is pushing down on Saba's leg trying to pass to half guard. Saba is fighting to maintain full guard but Thompson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Thompson moves into full mount! Saba won't be happy about that!
Saba is in all sorts of trouble here.

Thompson trying to control but Saba is having none of it.
Thompson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Saba kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Thompson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Saba manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Thompson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Saba, who protects the arm well.
Thompson prevents Saba from escaping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Saba closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Thompson prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erik Saba. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saba lands a nice knee to the body.

It looks like Dan Thompson has been cut.
Saba lands an elbow inside.

Thompson has hold of one of Saba's legs. Saba is fighting the takedown attempt but Thompson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Saba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Thompson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Thompson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Saba wants to improve his position but Thompson is controlling well.
Saba wants to get back to his feet.

Saba is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Thompson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Thompson's back!
Saba doesn't have the hooks in and Thompson manages to turn into his guard.

Saba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thompson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thompson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Saba wants to sweep but no luck.

Thompson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Saba had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Thompson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Saba Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Thompson's back instead.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Erik Saba will probably get the nod.

Saba wants to clinch but Thompson slips to the side
and Thompson counters with a three punch combo that has Saba backing up. Saba nods at Thompson to acknowledge the strikes.

Saba has taken the fight to the clinch.
Saba comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Saba is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Thompson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Erik Saba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Thompson.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Saba is on top in guard.

Saba is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thompson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thompson has escaped and now he's on top!
Dan Thompson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Saba looking for a triangle here. Thompson is fighting it but it looks tight! Saba pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Thompson is tapping out - this one is all over!
