PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Lyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ilkka Kanerva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyle kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Father of the Wolf. Kanerva has chosen Sultans of Swing as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Kanerva. That snapped Lyle's head back.
Kanerva jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Lyle shoots for a double leg takedown but Kanerva sprawls well. He's pushed Lyle's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kanerva seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Lyle's chin but Lyle turns very nicely into Kanerva's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Lyle.
Lyle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lyle wants to get up but he can't break Kanerva's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lyle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee asks Lyle politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Lyle prefers to stall for the moment though.

Lyle closes the distance and clinches up with Kanerva, looking for a takedown. Lyle pushes Kanerva against the cage but Kanerva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kanerva holds on and takes a little breather.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Kanerva has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Lyle's body.

Kanerva has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lyle has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Let's hope that Kanerva has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kanerva leaves Lyle with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kanerva cracks Lyle with a left hook right on the temple and Lyle goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Kanerva lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Lyle is OK!
