The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes misses with a series of wild punches.
Mendes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thiago Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes lands with a nice body punch.

Giordano looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
