Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Barton Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Jamerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jim Jamerson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barton Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jim Jamerson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathis takes one on the button.

Mathis tries to sprawl but Jamerson drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Jamerson trying to control the pace.
Mathis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jamerson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mathis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Jamerson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mathis trying to control but Jamerson postures up.
Jamerson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mathis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mathis is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Jamerson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mathis is staying active underneath Jamerson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jamerson lands with a punch from half guard.
Jamerson working over Mathis with some ground and pound. Mathis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Jamerson trying to control from half guard but Mathis is working away.
Jamerson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Mathis is defending against the submission attempts here by Jamerson.
Mathis is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jamerson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mathis blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jamerson.
Jamerson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mathis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Jamerson throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Mathis to regain full guard.

Jamerson content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Jamerson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mathis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jamerson throws an elbow that misses. Mathis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jamerson's guard. Nice move by Mathis!
Jamerson is looking to stand back up but Mathis counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Jamerson.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mathis is keen to just control but Jamerson is a slippery customer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jamerson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mathis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mathis decides to return to a standing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A combination from Jamerson does no damage.
Jamerson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jamerson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mathis counters with a nice leg kick.
Jim Jamerson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mathis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jamerson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Jamerson misses the body punch

and Mathis counters by clinching up.
Mathis stalling in the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Jamerson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Mathis jumps guard.
Jamerson postures up and lands a big shot to Mathis's brow.
Jamerson trying to control the position from guard on top but Mathis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mathis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jamerson manages to get himself to full guard.
Mathis trying to control but Jamerson is working from the bottom.
Mathis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jamerson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jamerson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Jamerson dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jamerson misses with a double jab
and Mathis counters with a one-two to the body.
Jamerson throws a combination that misses
and Mathis counters with a nice uppercut.
Jamerson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mathis counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jamerson thinking.
Mathis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jamerson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mathis somewhat.
An inside leg kick from Jamerson misses.
Mathis scores with a sloppy right hand. Jamerson should have avoided that one.
Mathis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jamerson sprawls well. Jamerson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mathis gets slowly back to his feet.
Jamerson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Mathis comes in over the top with a devastating right hand! Jamerson stumbles back against the cage, looking to regain his senses but Mathis is on him like rabid pit bull! Jamerson slumps to the ground under a storm of punches and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Barton Mathis!
