PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Devon King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baptista Fadda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baptista Fadda struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Devon King had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Devon King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Baptista Fadda!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King lands a nice hook to Fadda's body. Fadda takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Fadda has his takedown stuffed

and King counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fadda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fadda wants to sweep but no luck.
King lands a couple of elbows.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
King is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fadda for as long as he can get away with.
King has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Devon King.
Nice jab there from King.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Good shot there by King.
King dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by King as he connects with a hook.
A punch lands to the side of Fadda 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Fadda shoots for a takedown but King saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
King throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Fadda stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
We've been told by King's head coaches at Dark Horse MMA Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fadda fails to land the takedown.
Devon King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baptista Fadda.

and King counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by King.
King lands a couple of elbows.
King lands a couple of digs.
King stopping the sweep attempt from Fadda.
King works over Fadda with some ground and pound from guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
King not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Fadda wants to sweep but no luck.

Fadda had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. King defends it easily.
King seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

and King counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
Fadda is in trouble now - King has advanced to mount!
King looking to control and managing it successfully.
King postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fadda looks a forlorn figure.
King controlling the position easily from mount.
Fadda wants to control but King is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fadda is in a horrible position here. King smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Fadda takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! King's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Devon King!
After winning the bout, Devon King thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
