PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Veldrane Sengir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ebenezer Scrooge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Veldrane Sengir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ebenezer Scrooge!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scrooge lands with a shot to the body.
Sengir shoots for a double leg takedown but Scrooge sprawls well. He's pushed Sengir's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sengir with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Scrooge to score with a decent uppercut.


It looks like Veldrane Sengir has been cut.
Scrooge misses with an uppercut. Sengir saw that one coming.
Scrooge cracks Sengir with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Scrooge scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sengir tries to roll over but Scrooge keeps him under control.
Scrooge wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sengir keeps working.
Sengir is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at VENDETTA Elite Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
It looks like Scrooge is going to stand back up.
Scrooge perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sengir is refusing to be controlled, as Scrooge sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ebenezer Scrooge was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Scrooge cracks Sengir with a right hand to the side of the head.

Sengir closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Scrooge is looking to reverse the position.
Scrooge prevents Sengir from moving into mount.
Scrooge told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Scrooge pushes Sengir away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sengir gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scrooge is trying to get back to half guard.

Scrooge prevents Sengir from moving into mount.
Scrooge tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sengir wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Sengir tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sengir has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Scrooge's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sengir is staying tight to Scrooge's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Sengir is trying to ground and pound but Scrooge uses the momentary lack of control by Sengir to regain half guard.

Sengir controlling the pace.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Scrooge trying to control from the bottom.
Sengir is keen to just control but Scrooge is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Veldrane Sengir just wasn't active enough.
Nice uppercut lands for Scrooge. That snapped Sengir's head back.
Sengir takes a jab right on the kisser.
Veldrane Sengir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Scrooge fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sengir tries to clinch up but Scrooge circles away and keeps his distance.
Sengir tries to score a power double leg takedown but Scrooge sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sengir somewhat.
Scrooge takes a swing at Sengir's ribcage but misses.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sengir gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Scrooge connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Veldrane Sengir. That's going to take a lot out of him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A head kick misses from Scrooge.
Ebenezer Scrooge seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Scrooge throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sengir sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Sengir uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scrooge.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sengir shoots in but Scrooge avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Scrooge slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Scrooge would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Scrooge throws a series of strikes that have Sengir backpedaling.


Veldrane Sengir's cut is getting worse.
Sengir walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Scrooge scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Scrooge is looking to clinch.
Scrooge circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sengir closes the distance and clinches.
Sengir is working for takedown but Scrooge is calmly controlling the position for now.

Scrooge is trying to force a seperation but Sengir has the dominant position.
Scrooge wants to get back to striking at distance but Sengir won't allow it.
Scrooge is trying to push Sengir away but Sengir has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Scrooge has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Scrooge is trying to force a seperation but Sengir has the dominant position.
Sengir drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Scrooge can't break the clinch.
Sengir dodges an elbow strike from Scrooge.
Scrooge has had enough of the clinch but Sengir keeps him there for the moment.
Sengir is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Scrooge to keep the fight standing.

Scrooge breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheers as Scrooge lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sengir doesn't seem phased though.


Veldrane Sengir's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Scrooge works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Sengir moves into the clinch successfully.

Scrooge breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Scrooge tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sengir defends well and Scrooge ends up having to push Sengir into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Scrooge can't break the clinch.
Sengir can't get the takedown.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Scrooge wants to break the clinch but can't.
Scrooge lands a body shot.

Sengir tries for a takedown but Scrooge circles away easily
and Scrooge counters with a nice body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Scrooge looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sengir shoots in looking for a takedown but Scrooge manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sengir's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Scrooge bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Sengir's head backwards.
Scrooge keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ebenezer Scrooge showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Sengir's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Scrooge connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sengir's hands.

Sengir wants to stand and escape but Scrooge is having none of it.
Scrooge has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sengir is proving hard to escape from.
Scrooge wants to control from the top but Sengir keeps moving.

Scrooge wanted to stand there but Sengir had control of the position.

Scrooge stands and steps away. Sengir gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jeez, Veldrane Sengir's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Scrooge throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sengir stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Sengir gets caught flat footed, as Scrooge shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Scrooge gets to his feet - Sengir follows without any prompting.
Veldrane Sengir has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Veldrane Sengir is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Scrooge cracks Sengir with a good jab.
Sengir walks into a left hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ebenezer Scrooge is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Scrooge has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Well Scrooge has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
