PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Arienzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez has chosen Megadeth-Trust as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Arienzo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Ramirez!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramirez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Arienzo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ramirez somewhat.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ramirez.
Ramirez misses with a takedown
and Arienzo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ramirez throws a sloppy head kick and Arienzo moves out of range easily.

Ramirez gets the takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ground and pound from Ramirez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Ramirez fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Arienzo tries to improve position but can't.
Arienzo is not content to let Ramirez control the position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Arienzo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Ramirez is looking for a sweep. Arienzo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Arienzo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ramirez keeps working.
Arienzo is pressing down on Ramirez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ramirez is holding on for now.
Arienzo is taking a breather. Ramirez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Carlos Arienzo.

Ramirez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ramirez throws a poor cross that misses
and Arienzo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Arienzo slaps away a takedown attempt from Ramirez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ramirez works Arienzo's body with a nice hook.
Arienzo has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Arienzo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ramirez.

Carlos Arienzo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Ramirez.
Arienzo leaves Ramirez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ramirez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Arienzo circles away quickly and effectively.

Arienzo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ramirez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ramirez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Arienzo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ramirez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Arienzo escapes and throws Ramirez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

We're going to have a standup here because Carlos Arienzo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Ramirez tries to bum rush Arienzo with a series of wild strikes but Arienzo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Horrible takedown by Ramirez or perhaps it was just good defense by Arienzo which made him look bad.

Ramirez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ramirez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A close second round but Alex Ramirez will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Ramirez goes for a double leg but Arienzo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Arienzo continues to drive forward.
Arienzo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ramirez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
