DeAngelo Spite has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, DeAngelo Spite!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mercury Jones!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spite keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jones looks to throw the jab but Spite is out of range.
Spite throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Spite ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Spite misses with a two punch combination.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spite circles away.
Some wild striking there from Spite.
Jones throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Spite!
Jones looking to control but Spite is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spite wants to get back to his feet.
Jones avoids the attempt from Spite to control.

Jones moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Spite has worked his arm free - good work by Spite!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spite is pushing Jones's head away, looking to escape. Jones manages to hold on to the position though.
Spite can't do much from the bottom here.

Jones tries for a kimura but Spite is defending well.

Jones looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jones is looking to take a break and control but Spite is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Spite regains half guard.
Spite is trying to stand back up but Jones is controlling him

Jones is working for a kimura but Spite is defending it quite comfortably.
Jones looks gassed!

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jones wants to take a breather but Spite is having none of it.
Spite wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice defenses there by Spite.
Jones takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Jones misses with a combination
and Spite counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nice takedown defense from Spite. No joy for Jones on that attempt.
Spite checks a leg kick.
A big right from Jones misses.
Jones throws a jab but it's blocked by Spite.
Spite stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Spite fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones throws an overhand right that lands on Spite's shoulder, as Spite tries to avoid the shot.
Spite tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Spite slips a jab from Jones.
Spite displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab.
Mercury Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones throws a jab but it's blocked by Spite.
Jones tries for a takedown but Spite sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
DeAngelo Spite has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mercury Jones.
Spite lands a two punch combo.


Jones is rocked!
Spite circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Jones to the canvas! Jones doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Spite keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). DeAngelo Spite!
